Low price, full package

A cheap LLC, with nothing hidden

Our fee is $99 in every state. Your state's filing fee is passed through at cost. The EIN, an operating agreement and your approved documents are included, and you see the full total before you pay.

What an LLC really costs

Two numbers make up the price of a new LLC. The first is the state's filing fee, set by law, which runs from $35 in Montana to $520 in Massachusetts. The second is what a filing service charges for its work. Ours is a flat $99 in every state, and we pass the state fee through at cost with no markup.

So the lowest total you will pay with us is $134 for a Montana LLC, and you see your exact total before you pay.

What the $99 covers

  • We check that your name is available before we file.
  • We prepare and file your Articles of Organization with the state usually within 1 business hour of a complete order during business hours.
  • We apply for your EIN (federal tax ID) with the IRS together with your state filing.
  • You get an operating agreement for your LLC, free.
  • You get the state's filing receipt and your approved Articles by email as PDFs, saved in your account too (in New York and Wisconsin the state charges $5 for a plain copy or $10 for a certified copy of the Articles, which you pick at checkout).
  • You get email reminders before your annual report and other state deadlines, free.
  • A certified copy, a Certificate of Good Standing or the state's own rush service, if you want one, costs only what the state charges.

Where low prices usually hide costs

A very low headline price is often paired with charges that show up later: a fee for the EIN, a fee for the operating agreement, a markup on the state fee, a rush upsell, or a yearly subscription that renews on its own. Before you pay anyone, ask for the total for your state, everything included.

We don't sell a registered agent subscription. Most states need a registered agent with a street address in the state. You can be your own if you have one, or hire a commercial agent if you don't. In New York the Secretary of State fills this role, so you don't need one.

Cheap to form is not always cheap to keep

The fee to form an LLC is paid once. Some states also charge every year. Arkansas costs $45 to form but charges a $150 franchise tax each year. California costs $70 to form (with HourLLC every California order also includes the $750 same-day state rush fee), and every California LLC owes an $800 annual tax. Delaware costs $110 to form plus a $400 tax each year.

Most small businesses form in the state where they actually work. An LLC formed somewhere else may have to register again in its home state as a foreign LLC, which means two sets of fees. If you aren't sure, ask an accountant before you file. Each state page lists the yearly rules for that state.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What is the cheapest way to form an LLC?

Filing directly with your state costs only the state fee, from $35 to $520 depending on the state. With us you add a flat $99 and we handle the filing, the EIN and the operating agreement, usually filed within 1 business hour.

Which state has the cheapest LLC filing fee?

Montana, at $35. The cheapest state to form in is only cheaper if your business actually belongs there, because a business that operates in another state may have to register there too.

Are there any fees after I pay?

Not from us for the LLC itself. If you add a certified copy, a Good Standing certificate or a state rush, you pay only the state's own cost for it. Your state may charge its own yearly fee, which your state page shows.

Does HourLLC mark up the state fee?

No. The state fee is passed through at cost and shown as its own line before you pay.

Is the EIN extra?

No. The EIN from the IRS is included in every order.
