What to have ready
- The name you want, plus a second choice in case the first is taken. You pick the ending: LLC, L.L.C. or Limited Liability Company.
- The full name of each member (owner). A member can be a person or another company.
- A business address, such as your home or office.
- Whether the members run the company themselves (member managed) or name a manager (manager managed).
- A registered agent with a street address in your state, in every state except New York. You can be your own if you have an in-state address.
After you pay
We file your Articles of Organization (some states call it a Certificate of Formation or Certificate of Organization). When the state approves it, we email your approved documents as PDFs and keep them in your account, where you can sign in any time.
We apply for its EIN with the IRS together with your state filing, and you get your operating agreement. You also get email reminders before your state's annual report or other deadlines.
How long approval takes

What it costs
$99 plus your state's filing fee at cost. State fees run from $35 in Montana to $520 in Massachusetts. Your state's page shows its fee and your total.

Can I form an LLC completely online?
Yes. You fill out the form and pay online, we handle the filing with the state, and your approved documents arrive by email.
Can I form an LLC in a different state online?
Yes, we file in all 50 states and DC. Keep in mind that a business that operates in one state but forms in another may have to register in its home state too.
Can I file with the state myself?
Yes, every state lets you file on your own and pay only the state fee. We save you the forms, the name check, the EIN application and the follow up, for a flat fee.
Do I need a lawyer to form an LLC online?
No. Most people form a simple LLC without one. We're a filing service, not a law firm, so if you have questions about structure, taxes or ownership deals, an attorney or accountant is the right person to ask.
When do I get my EIN?
We apply for it together with your state filing, so there is no separate step to wait for.
