What HourLLC charges

HourLLCPrice
Form the LLC: $99 service fee + $200 state fee + $5 plain copy (EIN and operating agreement included)$304
Publication, done for you: both newspapers, affidavits and the $50 Certificate of Publication fee$649
Formed and published$953

Publication is the same $649 in every county, including New York County (Manhattan), where newspaper rates are usually the highest. LLCs formed in another state and registered in New York add $150 for publication. A certified copy of the Articles instead of the plain copy adds $5.

Why publication costs so much

The county clerk, not you, picks the two newspapers (one daily, one weekly) for the county where your LLC's office is. The papers set their own rates. In New York City counties those rates are usually much higher than upstate, so the same notice can cost very different amounts depending on the county. How publication works, step by step.

Costs you can skip

  • A registered agent. New York lists the Secretary of State as your agent for legal papers, so you don't need one. We offer one for $125 a year if you want your address off the forwarding list.
  • A certified copy. The plain copy is enough for most banks. Get certified ($10) only if someone asks for it.
  • Paid EIN services. The EIN is free from the IRS, and it is included with every HourLLC order.

FAQ

Questions, answered

How much does an LLC cost in New York?

The state charges $200 to file the Articles of Organization, plus $5 for a plain copy of the filed Articles ($10 certified). Is publication required for every New York LLC?

Yes. Section 206 of the New York LLC Law requires every new LLC, and every out of state LLC registering in New York, to publish within 120 days.

How much is the New York biennial statement?

$9, every two years, due in the month the LLC was formed.

Does New York have an annual LLC tax?

There is no flat annual fee like Delaware's. LLCs with New York income may owe a yearly filing fee to the Tax Department (Form IT-204-LL), based on that income. Ask your accountant.
