How to choose an LLC formation service

Most services look cheap at the top of the page. The difference shows up at checkout: the EIN, the operating agreement, speed and yearly renewals. Here is what to compare, and how HourLLC stacks up.

What to compare

Four questions to ask any LLC service

  1. What is my total, all in? Service fee plus the state fee plus anything added at checkout.
  2. Is the EIN included? It is free from the IRS, but some packages charge to apply for it.
  3. When do you file? Filed in an hour, a day or a week is the service's choice. Approval is the state's.
  4. What renews? Registered agent, compliance plans and subscriptions can turn a $0 package into a yearly bill.

When a $0 package is the right call

If you already have an EIN plan, don't need an operating agreement, and aren't in a hurry, a $0 package plus the state fee can cost less. If you want the LLC filed today with the EIN and operating agreement done, compare the totals after those add-ons.

Pick your state

Every state has its own fee, approval time and yearly report. Our state guides list them for all 50 states and DC.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What is the best LLC formation service?

The one whose total, after the EIN, operating agreement, speed and renewals, fits what you need. Compare the all-in price, not the starting price.

Do I need a formation service at all?

No. You can file with your state yourself. A service saves time, checks the name and paperwork, and handles the EIN and follow-up.

Does HourLLC charge yearly fees?

No yearly fee for the LLC itself. A registered agent, if you choose one, is $125 a year. Annual report reminders are free.

Is HourLLC a law firm?

No. HourLLC is a document filing service and does not give legal or tax advice.
