LLC publication in Nassau County

Every new New York LLC must publish a notice for six weeks. For an LLC with an office in Nassau County (Hempstead, Oyster Bay, North Hempstead, Glen Cove, Long Beach and the villages within them), the Nassau County Clerk designates the daily and weekly newspapers.

Who picks the newspapers

The Nassau County Clerk designates them

Under section 206 of the New York LLC Law, the county clerk of the county where your LLC's office is located designates one daily and one weekly newspaper. You publish in those two, once a week for six consecutive weeks, within 120 days after your Articles of Organization take effect.

Nassau County Clerk, 240 Old Country Road, Mineola, NY 11501. Clerk's office page.

Long Island owners sometimes assume they can pick a local weekly they already know. You can only use the papers the clerk designates.

The steps for a Nassau County, Long Island LLC

  1. Get the two designated newspapers from the Nassau County Clerk.
  2. Place the notice (or a copy of the Articles) with both papers.
  3. Let it run once a week for six weeks in each.
  4. Collect an affidavit of publication from each paper.
  5. File the Certificate of Publication with the Department of State with both affidavits, and pay the $50 state fee.
